I’m a bit confused but… Why does it say in preferences “never shown to the public” on email but everyone’s username on these forums is the email address name just without the service. Doesn’t it kinda defeat the purpose of hiding your email if your username thing is the email on here?

You are right, that is a bit missleading. The forum software auto-generates the username form the email when its linked to a Watch2Gether account. You will not receive any spam because of this as the adresses are not complete but i agree that the term “never shown in public” is not 100% correct. I will think about a solution to make the usernames a bit more cryptic.
Perhaps if you can find a way to let users create and assign a permanent username that’d be the best solution. However, I don’t know how difficult that would be or even how you would do such.
